Angel Island: The Asian Immigrant's Experience in the U.S.

In this lesson, students will learn about Angel Island to supplement their understanding of immigration policies and the history of immigration in America. Students will engage with images and texts describing the development and impact of the Angel Island Immigration Station, and compare Angel Island to Ellis Island as a way to apply various historical thinking skills.

Learning Objectives - Through the analysis of primary and secondary sources, students will be able to:

1. Provide a summary of the historical context surrounding the Angel Island Immigration Station.

2. Compare and contrast the experiences of immigrants at Ellis Island and immigrants at Angel Island.

3. Analyze the development and application of different policies and opinions regarding Asian immigration to the U.S. in the 19th and 20th centuries.
