Ethnomath: Geometric Reflections

Ethnomathematics: Geometry - Reflections

In this lesson plan, students will learn about geometric reflections in Adrinka symbols. Students will have the opportunity to practice the concept of geometric reflections while exploring these powerful and beautiful symbols. This is one of three geometry lessons that focus on ethnomathematics. See also Ethnomath: Geometric Translations and Ethnomath: Geometric Rotations.

Before starting this lesson, students should have a background in geometric reflections.

In this lesson, students will:

  1. Learn about Adrinka history and discover meanings and geometric reflections in Adinkra symbols

  2. Practice reflections across the x-axis, y-axis, y = x, and y = -x (CCSS.MATH.HSG.CO.A.5)

The standard covered in this lesson is: CCSS.MATH.HSG.CO.A.5
